User experience design

FAQ's and Definitions

The time factor again! Yes, it is that important!

We frequently review the home pages of Websites and find that we cannot figure out what product or service the company has to offer. Thousands of hours of web marketing research clearly show that you have from 3 to 5 seconds (maybe 10) to capture - or repel - reader interest. With illustrations and pictures, the human mind can make a decision in as little as 50 milliseconds (1/50,000). Website user experience can be positive or fail miserably in less time than it took you to read this paragraph.

What is a brand? The definition we like: what your prospects and clients think of when someone brings up your name or that of your company. You can and should create what you want people to believe. But the public will define it for themselves, depending on how well you deliver what you promise.

Is this SEO work or copy-writing? Neither. These are by far the most frequent assumptions about our work. We discuss and sometimes influence SEO work. Copy-writing is a much simpler process, though it can be quite valuable. Our work is in language optimization - a particular type of information optimization.

Can you manage a web or other marketing effort for us? Absolutely! We offer you a streamlined process that saves you time and money and gets you a highly professional job. You get one very experienced point of contact who will take the time to understand the business purposes behind your website content development efforts and then assemble a team of professionals to complete the tasks.

What topics do you typically discuss? We want to know how you want people to feel when they find your information and what they need to understand about you. We discuss your focus, market, mission statement, successes, failures, goals, current marketing efforts, branding, current Website content, marketing materials, website appearance, technical designers you are working with, experiences, media use, experience, company culture, uniqueness, budget, agreement, social media, and others.

Do you design websites? Yes and no. We are not technical designers. However, we frequently assemble Website development teams to complete your design for you. We will hire any level of design or technical team you need so that you don't have to figure out who to hire. We take a great deal of care in matching our clients up with the appropriate level of design expert. We will also work with your current provider.

What about graphic design? We know a number of designers as well. They can help create your logo and overall look, printed materials layouts, or Website. It depends on your needs and the story we are trying to create for your clients and prospects.

What is the difference between sales language and marketing language? There are many ways to define each of these. The concepts are not completely separate and are sometimes interchangeable. These are just our interpretations. Marketing language is descriptive of the product or service with supporting reasons to consider. Sales language is usually thought of as persuasive in some fashion. However, highly professional sales people will not sound "sales-ey" at all. Contact us to find out why.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) - This is a pseudo-science begun in the early 1970's by a linguist and a student at U. C. Santa Cruz and was adapted into a form of psychotherapy to help patients by changing distorted general thoughts into something more focused. Adapted to the sales field, it is used to help you persuade people to want to do what you want them to do. The language is direct and transparent, though it is far from being intuitive to use these methods.

Can you help us with SEO language? Maybe. Sometimes it involves only a simple effort and there are three distinctly different levels of this craft. However, if your goals include regional, national, or global target markets, then we would recommend a high level search engine marketing or search engine positioning company. We have several local firms that will fit the bill.

Do you handle social media? Some, and we can consult with you on using it. We have professional relationships with several firms that specialize in it.

Warning: Many (but not all) SEO and SEM companies get locked-up in the mathematics of their work. Remember, when someone finds you on a Google, Yahoo, or other search, they may find 10 or 20 more just like you on that page. Are you giving them a reason to choose you over the others?
